As news about the TikTok ban continues to circulate, businesses, influencers, and individuals are evaluating what other platforms could be viable TikTok alternatives. Although it’s difficult to predict where the majority of TikTok users will end up if this really is the end for the platform, it’s important to start educating yourself on other social media apps that could take the reigns as the top short-form video platform.
Here are seven TikTok alternatives to experiment with for your brand.
Platforms You Have Already Established
Shifting your efforts to a new platform can be intimidating, but thankfully your brand may already have a presence on some of the most viable TikTok alternatives.
Instagram/Instagram Reels
When Instagram introduced Reels in 2020, it quickly became a fan-favorite for viewing short-form video content from your favorite creators. Currently, Instagram is the third most-used social media platform, with 2 billion active users worldwide in 2024. On top of that, Hootsuite reports that Reels account for more than half of the time people spend on Instagram — making it one of the most viable TikTok alternatives and an easy place to pivot your brand’s short-form social video marketing efforts to.

Facebook/Facebook Reels
Similar to Instagram, Facebook Reels already has an established audience that has become loyal to their platform. Facebook is currently the most used social media platform, with over 3 billion monthly users. Given that that Facebook Reels see about 200 billion views on a daily basis across the Facebook family of apps, Facebook Reels likely to be one of the most viable TikTok alternatives.
YouTube Shorts
While YouTube is widely known as a long-form content platform, in 2020 the platform launched YouTube Shorts, which mimics some of the most-loved elements of TikTok. YouTube Shorts sees around 50 billion daily views and an average of 2 billion monthly users. If your brand already has a presence on YouTube, consider experimenting with Shorts to see if the content resonates with your audience.
New and Emerging Platforms to Try
While your brand may already have an established on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, now may also be a good time to take advantage of starting fresh on another platform. While it remains to be seen which of these platforms will come out on top, your brand will have the advantage of being seen as an early adopter — and could even reach audiences that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to on other platforms.
Triller
Originally launched in 2015, Triller describes itself on the Apple App Store as an entertainment and music platform and a social video editor built for a community of creators. Triller’s current CEO was a former TikTok executive and the platform is offering a “savemyTikToks” function that allows users to move content from TikTok to Triller, making the transition between apps quick and easy.
Clapper
Similar to TikTok, Clapper is an American-owned platform dedicated to short-form video content and livestreaming features. The platform describes itself as one intended for adults (17+) to see the latest trends and people’s real lives as they unfold, with “no filters, no ads and no BS.” In a recent blog post about the TikTok ban, Clapper advertises that they “have all the same capabilities as TikTok and some other, unique offerings that make [them] the perfect candidate to replace TikTok.”
Lemon8
Lemon8 is another option for TikTok users to begin utilizing for social media content, including photos and videos.
This platform has often been compared to the likes of Instagram, Pinterest as well as TikTok, and caters to categories such as fashion, beauty, wellness, food, and travel for its users.
RedNote
Similar to Lemon8, RedNote has been discussed amongst brands, businesses, and influencers and the new TikTok, and many have already begun establishing their profiles.
Within the span of two days, more than 700,000 new users joined the platform.
NOTE: Before you begin moving your social media marketing efforts to Lemon8 or RedNote, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Both platforms fall under the same legislation as TikTok and could potentially be banned in the future as well.
Ars Technica explains that “under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that would force TikTok’s sale or require a ban, any ‘foreign adversary controlled’ social media app with more than 1 million monthly active users could be banned.” A significant spike in users on Lemon8, whose parent company in Bytedance, could result in a ban of that platform as well.
The other widely talked about TikTok alternative, Xiaohongsh (also known as RedNote) is a Chinese-owned app, meaning it could also face a ban once it meets the user threshold.
With the social media landscape continuing to evolve faster than ever, it’s important to stay updated on TikTok alternatives and other changes taking place. Stay tuned to the Scooter Media blog for continuing updates and trends, and also be sure to check out:
