There are many elements to take into consideration when developing a successful email marketing strategy, from crafting catchy headlines to designing a visually appealing layout. However, all of the hard work you’ve put into your strategy won’t mean much if your email subscriber list isn’t up to par!
If your email marketing strategy has stalled, here are a few easy-to-implement ideas for expanding your email subscriber list:
#1: Invite Website Visitors to Subscribe
If someone is visiting your website, there’s a good chance they are a captive audience who will be receptive to emails sent by your organization. Make it easy to add them to your list by placing a link to sign-up for your e-newsletter on a prominent position on your website.
If your organization has lead generation tools (such as free downloadables), also consider placing a pop-up on your website where visitors are able to get these resources for free in exchange for submitting their email address. (Don’t forget that they have to opt-in to receive your emails, though!)
#2: Add Subscribers via Social Media
Cross-promoting your email marketing efforts on your organization’s other owned channels like social media is another great way to grow your email subscriber list.
For example, if you’ve just released the newest edition of your monthly e-newsletter, a simple social post letting followers know that it’s live (along with a link to check it out) is an easy way to drive additional traffic.
TIP: Don’t forget to add a link to your organization’s social media channels at the bottom of your brand’s email communications so the cross-promotion goes both ways.
When utilizing social media to promote your newsletter, it’s a good idea to experiment with how often and what time you post. If you send a newsletter once a month, for example, you can tweet the signup link before it goes out, make a post on Facebook linking to the newsletter once it’s live, and perhaps an “in case you missed it” post or two in the weeks after the email has been distributed.
#3: Drive In-Person Traffic to Digital Platforms
If your business is one that receives a lot of foot traffic — such as a restaurant — it’s also a great idea to convert in-person customers into digital followers for your brand.
For example, if your e-newsletter includes special deals, offers, and promotions, this is great information to publicize on a poster or small table display — just be sure to include a QR code to make signing up as easy as possible!
In addition, if your company frequently hosts events, add a checkbox where attendees can sign-up for your e-newsletter when they register or purchase tickets for an event. You can even promote your e-newsletter at the event itself, whether that’s through signage with a QR code to sign-up or even an old-fashioned clipboard where attendees can write their email address to stay in touch with your organization.
