Video content continues to be one of the best strategies for engaging audiences on social media, and the rapid explosion of TikTok has given brands a new platform for reaching those audiences via creative, short-form videos. Especially over the past year, many brands have turned to posting informational, educational, and entertaining content on TikTok, helping them reach audiences that may not be present on other social media platforms.
Wondering how your organization can get in on the action? Check out these four TikTok tips to expand your brand’s presence and make your content more engaging:
Tip #1: Decide on Your Brand’s Voice
Before you even create a TikTok account, take some time to consider your overall approach and brand voice. Will you be creating educational, informative, or entertaining content? What do you want the majority of your content to look like? Is there an overall idea, theme, or key message you’re aiming to communicate?
If you’re making content about your brand’s products or services, starting a weekly series that your viewers will come back to is a great way to establish a brand voice. Disney Parks does a great job of this, frequently using their TikTok to spotlight employees who work at their parks and allowing them to share their favorite stories.

Tip #2: Change It Up
Once you’ve established the direction of your page and attracted some followers, now it’s time to explore the trending topics and sounds on TikTok. Everyone loves trendy videos, and posting them will show viewers a more creative and fun side to your brand. Who hasn’t been inspired to learn a new language after a quirky Duolingo video popped up on their “For You” page? Pushing the boundaries, adding some flair, and having fun with your content will make people more likely to follow and engage with your posts.
Did your coworker send you a TikTok sound that was trending? Did it make you laugh? Try using this sound to highlight the fun side of your organization. Tip #3: Keep It Short and Sweet
It’s important to remember that viewers on TikTok often are searching for quick videos that grab their attention in the first few seconds. Like writing a paper, the introduction sentence, or hook, is essential to keep your audience interested in the precious few seconds you have to grab their attention. Creating a “Top 10 Ways to …” type of video and going into detail about each point may lose your audience’s attention, causing them to scroll. However, if your video remains under one minute in length, you can keep your audience’s attention and direct them elsewhere for more information.
If you’re going to be making longer-form videos on TikTok, outline your video ahead of time, keeping in mind what will make the longer video worth watching until the end. Need some inspiration? Here are a few quick tips for rapidly attention engagement with your video content.
Tip #4: Experiment with Sounds, Effects, and Text
Another great way to ensure your content stays engaging is to spice your videos up with some of the unique editing features offered on TikTok. Consider adding a trending sound, video effect, text pop-up, and/or captions to your video to keep it engaging and accessible.
While the flash and flair of trendy sounds, emojis, and special effects can be fun and entertaining, don’t forget that the focus should stay centered around what your TikTok page is intended for. The best videos on TikTok combine this purpose with creativity and inspiration to tell your brand’s story in a unique and compelling way. A great example of this is Dove’s #NoDigitalDistortion campaign, which used a variety of entertaining videos to spread a broader message of body positivity on social media.
